by Holli Childs

During the summer is Salt Lake City, many races of all different lengths and difficulties take place. Runners can be seen all over the streets and the trails as they prepare for various events. As it is now approaching the fall season, the races are beginning to wind down.

There are still a few more races to look forward to and to keep you training through the next few months. If you are looking for a fun race to end your season with a bang, look no further than South Jordan.

The annual SoJo Marathon and Half Marathon is a relatively flat course that is a Boston qualifier. It takes place the third Saturday in October. This year, it is October 18.

While it starts out a little chilly, it is ultimately perfect running weather.

The marathon begins in the town of Copperton, a few miles west of Daybreak. After winding around the old mining town, you head out to Bacchus Highway, with an awesome view of the copper mine. The course continues out through Herriman, where you eventually meet up with the half marathon route at the west end of Daybreak.

After a scenic run through the Daybreak Community and past the Oquirrh Lake, you leave the community to run through several other beautiful, South Jordan neighborhoods. At about mile 23, you begin your descent to the river bottoms to run the last couple of miles along the Jordan River Trail.

It is a beautiful end to the race, and the finish line is situated in a park where many people line the end of the course, cheering everyone on. It is a perfect location for the family to come and watch. A beautiful run through a not too difficult course is a great way to end the racing season on a high note.
