3rd Annual Serengeti Trail Races!!!
Tooele County is home to the Serengeti/Oquirrh Wave trail system, situated at the feet of the Oquirrh Mountains. These courses will appeal to the beginner and experienced trail runner alike. You will traverse semi-technical atv trails; take in sweeping views of the Tooele Valley, Great Salt Lake, and distant Stansbury Mountain Range; and enjoy the beauty and solitude of getting off the asphalt and onto the dirt.
New Marathon Distance!
The marathon course will take you on the new half-marathon route in a counter-clockwise direction. When you get to the finish line, you’ll head back out, washing machine style, completing the loop in clockwise direction. There will be about 3,500 ft of climbing!
Half Marathon Course
The half marathon course will take you through the myriad trails in the Oquirrh Wave and Serengeti. You will enjoy beautiful views of the northern Oquirrh’s, Tooele Valley, and the distant Stansbury Mountain Range. The course will be about 86% atv trails and 14% single-track. You will climb about 1,750 ft throughout.
The 10k’ers will follow the Half Marathon course for the first 1.6 miles, where you’ll take a short 0.2 mile connector road which hooks you up with the half marathon course again. At mile 4.8 you’ll deviate from the half marathon course again, heading west toward another ravine trail and descending the 700 ft to the finish. the total elevation gain for this course is about 950 ft.
With an overall elevation gain of about 750 ft, (with all of it being climbed by mile 1.5!) this isn’t your run-on-the-asphalt-fun-run 5k! This course deviates from all the other courses right from the start; where they all head south, you will head due east, up Bates Canyon Rd. At mile 0.5 you’ll turn northeast and climb a ravine trail to the high point of the 5k at 5,312 ft. You’ll follow the road north for 0.6 miles, where you’ll head west down another ravine trail, dropping 600 ft to the finish line.
